Pilar Corrias Gallery

Brief: Create a printed exhibition brochure for Sofia Mitsola’s myth-making world of Aquamarina, blending classical references with unapologetically contemporary energy.
Role: Brochure design, layout, typography, production artwork

My role in Sofia Mitsola’s Aquamarina: Crocodilian Tears show at Pilar Corrias was to bring clarity and tone to a world that resists easy definition.

The brochure needed to reflect Mitsola’s deliberately chaotic, layered mythology—one where female power is beautiful, brutal and biting. The design walks a tightrope between classical restraint and contemporary attitude, giving space to both Dr Flavia Frigeri’s essay and Mitsola’s own surreal narrative text.

From the custom type layout to the pacing of artwork captions, the aim was to make the piece feel like part myth, part manifesto.

Printed on uncoated stock to keep it tactile and direct, the brochure accompanied the 2021 show at Fortescue Avenue and is now part of Pilar Corrias’s growing archive of bold, female-led exhibitions.
